Decompression Update & Call for Campout Organizers
Hey Arizona Burners!
We have an important update about Decompression this year:
There will not be an Arizona Burners Decompression Campout moving forward.
Over the past few years, we’ve taken a look at what goes into making the decompression campout happen—the time, money, volunteer energy, logistics, and coordination—and how that compares with the number of people the event ultimately reaches. With attendance topping out at around 100 participants, along with some additional challenges that came up this past year, the Arizona Artistic Conflagurators Decompression team (AAC) has concluded that continuing to put those resources into an AAC-produced campout isn’t the best way for Arizona Burners to serve the broader community right now.
Instead, we’re putting that energy into IGNiGHT and leaning into it as our decompression event for 2026.
We want IGNiGHT to be a place where our community can come together, reconnect, celebrate, share stories, show off what we’ve been creating, and keep that post-Playa energy alive. We hope you’ll come out, bring your friends, bring your campmates, bring your weirdness, and help us make IGNiGHT a truly special Arizona Burner gathering. You can get connected with tickets and volunteer shifts for that event at azburners.org/ignight. We will also be moving the IGNiGHT event around to different parts of the state starting in 2027 to better include community members from all areas who maybe can’t make it down to Phoenix (that’s right, this is a small teaser about us coming to YOU!).
But the campout doesn’t have to disappear!!!
Arizona Burners is happy to connect with community members who are interested in putting something together and talk about ways we may be able to support a community-led campout. It is vital to keep in mind one often overlooked principle when it comes to self-organized public events – Civic Duty.
What does that mean? Ensuring that the rules of an event site are followed, permits are applied for if the land requires them, sound restrictions are honored, traffic is planned for, etc. AAC can help you with the research and answer any event planning questions that you may have.
Are you invested in hosting a fall campout? We would love to hear about it and discuss what ways AAC can support you in making that happen! Please send an email to arizona@burningman.com with interests or inquiries.
So, in short:
- No Arizona Burners Decompression Campout in 2026.
- IGNiGHT is our official decompression focus this year > learn more at azburners.org/ignight.
- Community members are absolutely welcome to organize their own campouts or put together a big campout to share with the community (it just needs a new name to avoid confusion).
- Arizona Burners is here to help explore ways to support those efforts.
- Notice how we used the term “fall campout”? That was on purpose. “Decompression” is a protected name with a specific meaning and cannot be used without permission of Burning Man Project.
We know the fall campout has been something some of you look forward to as a way to decompress from summer events, and we appreciate everyone who has helped make it happen in the past. This isn’t about stepping away from decompression or from our community—it’s about being intentional with the resources and volunteer energy we have and putting them where they can reach more people.
So let’s make IGNiGHT BIG. Come decompress with us there.
Did you know that we have a Volunteer Appreciation Program?
As you know, all AZ Burner events are 100% volunteer run. That includes not just on-site shifts at events (although those are vital), but also for year-round administrative, archival, organizational, skill sharing, infrastructure making, and general moving and shaking roles small and large. To show appreciation for the hard hours worked for free by people who simply love the community and want to help make things happen, there is an AZ Burners Volunteer Appreciation Program, in which a certain number of volunteer hours clocked in 2026 will gain certain benefits related to Saguaro Man in 2027.
Want to learn more? Check out the program details on the AZ Burners website: https://azburners.org/volunteering/

Making Saguaro Man Greener

We’re in the process of moving towards more renewable energies at Saguaro Man. We have submitted a proposal for The Green Regionals Grant to help build solar generators. While we’re waiting to hear back about the grant, we could use your help. We’re looking for cheap, used, or decommissioned solar panels. A pallet of the same type of panels would be best, but we’re happy to take whatever you can find.
Please reach out to Frackwater, AZB Regional Contact, with any leads you might have by sending an email to joel.roberts@burningman.org
