If you are a Burner who rides a bicycle then you would probably enjoy riding
with the Phoenix Phreaks. If you send an email to me @
phoenixphreaks@gmail.com
I will put you on our ride announce list.
Please remember to put our address in your email address book because
our announcements may otherwise go to your spam folder. I send out
very few announcements, and I am careful not to share your address
with others, so no spam from me.
Our next ride is our first anniversary ride. We will be participating
in the Tour De Fat bicycle parade.
When: Saturday October 11th registration begins at 9AM.
Where: Tempe Beach Park on the south side of Tempe Town Lake. Look
for our sign near the registration table it says Freak Bike Militia -
Phoenix Phreaks and looks like this:

Why: Because it's a hell of a lot of fun. They close off the streets
for a bicycle parade with thousands of bicyclists of all kinds.
People are dressed up in costume, and it's a great big party. After
the parade there is live music from a variety of bands.
Cost: Joining Phoenix Phreaks cost nothing. The parade is free to
participate in. This event does have vendors selling various things
you might wish to purchase. Like food, and beverages, and other
things.
Needs: You need a bicycle, and that which you would normally need to
survive in downtown Tempe.
Suggested: Cash for beer or other beverages, and food. A bike lock
might come in handy. Designated driver. Water can be purchased there,
but cheaper to bring your own. Sunscreen, hats, costume, etc.

Last year we apparently consumed 61
kegs of beer. Ouch! And it was the biggest event on their tour - with over
1000 riders - and it is open to both riders and drinkers.
Here's a link to this year's site:

Hope to see you
guy out there, preferably with your playa dust covered pimped out bikes,
trikes, and quads.

If you've never been it's a lot of fun. Last year was Tempe's first Tour
de Fat and I'm hoping that this year will be much larger.
The day starts off with a bicycle parade around downtown Tempe and ends
at Tempe Town Lake. Once we hit the park the alcohol consumption begins (or
before that, up to you).
The Yard Dogs Road Show (burlesque!) will be performing their family
friendly show and there will also be other bands and entertainment.
All of the profits New Belgium collects from these events goes to Coke
and Hookers (small % goes to local charities). They also give away a bicycle
during the event.
