<><><><><> Burn This Newsletter Vol. 1, #3 March '05<><><><><>

Welcome to the Arizona Burners Newsletter. This is a monthly (kind of) condensed list of events, stories, ideas and more. We hope that the regular but not overwhelming nature of this news letter will keep everyone informed about what is going on in the local Burning Man community. This newsletter will mainly be posted to the announce list. It may be posted to the AZBurners discussion list, tribes and other places.

This newsletter is organized as such: header, stories, events, ideas, and keeping in contact

This newsletter needs you! This is the 3rd issue and I have most of the bugs worked out. So now it's time for you to help. First, I would like to have one or two monthly stories written by you the community. Pick anything you want to write about that involved Burning Man or our Arizona burner community.

Second, I could really use help keeping track of all the events. A 2nd pair of eyes keeping track of it all would help. Third, if you have suggestions please let me know.

Burning Man tickets went on sale 1/5

Are you on the Jack Rabbit Speaks? What's that? A newsletter like this, but for ALL of Burning Man. Lots of fascinating stuff.

How about a little soul searching this month.

What does this community mean to you? Are you looking for a good party or are you looking for something deeper? Are you looking for art? Are you looking for personal fulfillment? Are you looking for meaning in your life? Why are you here?

This community could take many paths. It could become a creative, unique environment that allows us to live better. Or it could become one endless party. No path is right or wrong, but I believe that if we each regularly question why we are involved it will help guide us on the best path for each of us. We will each have a different view of what this community should be, but that diversity will allow us to be many things wile still growing in a positive fashion.

So, where do you want this community to go? What are you doing to get it there? Do you want to be a shooting star or the frost on the window pane?

To shine you must burn.

-Naked Mike

Events for the next few months as we know them. Some are official events, others just things the community is doing in groups.

)'( 3/4 First Fridays.
Downtown Phoenix has a monthly art walk.
http://www.artlinkphoenix.com/

While not a Burning Man event, many Burners participate as artists. The Wizards of Az often fire spin near by for example. We often meet at Holga's just south of Roosevelt on 3rd St. However, this month it's the grand opening of one our owns gallery. So make sure to stop by The Lodge, 1231 Grand Avenue and say hi to Mot. Mandala works based on traditional henna designs, Boom Boom Bollywood dance performance (9pm Friday) and Bhangra dance party after. The gallery will be open all weekend.

)'( 3/12-13 Tucson Warehouse Arts Festival
This event was stated in in 2003 as a reaction to the City of Tucson prying into the affairs of the Arts Community and our livelihoods. Much has happened since that time, and for now the relationship seems solid, and the warehouse district where all of us either inhabit or use, are going to be preserved in accordance with the needs of the Cultural Creative Community. The funding for this event was made possible by the Tucson Arts Coalition (TAC), Tucson Pime Arts Council, Arizona Commission on the Arts, and It's Happening Downtown.

)'( 5/21 Annual 100 Daze event
The location is being worked on and will likely be at Richard Wizardry property in the Camp Verde area. This event needs an organizer. Someone to take charge, make plans and bring it all together. You will have help, but it will help a lot for one person to be the organizer.

Some future ideas
It has been suggested that the 100 Daze party has grown to large for an urban environment. So, should it be expanded in to a 3 day weekend, out of town? In Camp Verde or elsewhere for example? Also 100 days before the man burns is may 26th so this could be held  over Memorial day weekend. Or the weekend before. If you have thoughts please bring them up on the AZBurners discussion  list. Particularly if you want to host it (pool would be nice
