<><><><><> AZ Burners News Letter Vol. 1, #1 January '05<><><><><>

Welcome to the AZ Burners News letter. This is a monthly (kind of) condensed list of events, stories, ideas and more. We hope that the regular but not overwhelming nature of this news letter will keep everyone informed about what is going on in the local Burning Man community. The first 3 issues of this will be posted on the announce list, the AZBurners discussion list, and a few individuals who have expressed interest.

Sorry if this results in duplicates for some of you. After 3 issues it will only be sent to the announce list (and will be one of a very few things on that list). So make sure you are on the announce list if you want this in the future.

This newsletter is organized as such: header, stories, events, ideas, and keeping in contact

This news letter needs a name!

"AZ Burners News Letter" isn't very catchy. Any ideas out there for what this little news letter should be called? It's fitting that you all should name it. This is your community.

A worthy cause. Donate to the Star school! A charter school run by local burners.
The AZBurner community has supported this school in a number of ways. But right now, you can get a tax credit for donating. Better to give the  money to a school of your choice than give it in taxes right? For some photos of the school and AZBurners in action go to:

If information on donating write to Kismet, kate(at)ttn(dot)org

Events for the next few months as we know them. Winter is our slow time, but lets change that!

1/12 (and every 12th of every month)
Phoenix Area Dinner. Once a month we go out to a restaurant for dinner. Location is determined by that months organizer.
January organizer: Jenna
Dinner starts at 6:30PM
January's dinner is going to be at Comedor Guadalajara in Phoenix. It's an authentic Mexican place, a big family-style place. They have great seafood and big platters of meat, fish, vegetables and rice you can share among a few people, and all the other typical Mexican dishes as well as some more authentic stuff. They'll be giving us our own room and expecting us from 6:30 to when they close at 9 pm.

We'll have one tab for meals, drinks will be separate and cash only, so bring cash if you want to drink.

It's located on Central Ave just north of the I-17, on the west side of the street. If you're coming from the east on I-17 get off at the 7th Street exit and take the frontage west to Central and go north, if you're coming from the west get off on 7th Avenue exit and take the frontage east to Central and go north. It's *just* north of I-17, so don't go too far.

February dinner organizer: Naked Mike (see below)

March Dinner organizer: Kathe

The date is less firm with this monthly dinner. Check with the AZBurners on topic list for details.
January: "Zona 78" at 78 West River Road, Tucson (River and Stone.) Gourmet pizza and other goodies, and a patio for smokers. Details about the place on the website http://www.zona78.com/

1/21 - Phoenix 1/22 - Tucson
A number of burners are going out to see the Booty Buglers.

2/4 First Fridays.
Down town Phoenix has a monthly art walk.

Wile not a Burning Man event, many Burners participate as artists. The  Wizards of Az often fire spin near by for example. We often meet at Holgas just south of Roosevelt on 3rd st.

2/12 (dinner is normally this day)
A proposed alternative Valentines day party. Ideas still forming. But  this could be our 4th big party to round out the year along with Holidaze, 100daze and rebar bender.

Some future ideas
A body art festival has been proposed for spring. A gathering of those who like to body paint, henna, die hair, etc. If you are interested in being an artist please contact Naked Mike
